Dad hails from Seoul, Korea, where he and his wife were custom dress makers. When he moved to L.A. in 1992, he became a pattern-maker for jeans brands including J Brand, Vince, Taverniti So, Antik Denim, Azteca Production, Mother, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Tom Ford, Alexander Wang, AG jeans back in the day when made-in-LA jeans were all the rage, and it was normal to spend $200-plus on a single pair.
Since then, those brands have been bought up, production moved overseas, his daughter graduated from fashion school and worked for several years for AG. Now, dad (Jim Kim) and daughter (Su Kim) have joined forces to bring denim back to L.A. The brand appropriately called Father’s Daughter.
