So after all that hooting and hollering about denim pencil skirts last week, here I am, trying one out for myself. I mentioned this particular one in this post, and I couldn’t get it’s sunny, rich color out of my head. Truth be told I cannot recall the last time I wore a pencil skirt before this, so I was very curious to see how I would get along with this retro-chic, very on-trend piece.
Let me just say, I think this Robert Rodriguez pencil skirt (in amber) and I are going to be the best of friends.
The Denim and Fit
The instant I pulled on this stretchy, ultra-fitted little number, I felt like a (slightly less endowed) professional-but-sassy modern Joan Holloway. I have hips! I have a butt! I am woman! Okay, okay, that’s taking it a bit far – but seriously! I find that with my rotating wardrobe of skinny jeans, menswear-inspired flats and button down shirts, I end up playing quite the tomboy most days. With well-placed back pockets, a little slit up the back (so you can walk) and faux front pockets, this skirt is so sleek, flattering and feminine.
As I said in the previous pencil skirt post, heels are essential to pull of this skirt in a way that will make you long and lovely. It was a bit chilly today so I wore closed-toe booties, but a strappier heel or classic pump will elongate your legs and up the sophistication factor even more. Clearly I wear this polka-dot blouse rather frequently, but I tell ya, navy and white go with everything! It really pops against the yellow, no?
Have you tried the pencil skirt trend that’s so big this season? How would you style it?
