Coveted Levi’s x Air Jordans Destroyed in the Name of Art

We told you about the buzz around the Levi’s x Air Jordan high top sneakers, which were released earlier this month and are currently being re-sold for $800 and up.

So it seems unlikely that anyone would willingly distress a pair to look as if they’ve been worn for several years but that’s what artist Julian Gaines has done with his, along with the reversible trucker jacket that was also released as part of the collaboration.

Gaines sanded them down, sliced them with a knife, tossed them into an industrial washing machine with stones, sprayed them with bleach and slung paint on them. He calls the result an abstract painting—what do you think? Art or blasphemy?
