I’m a little late on this news, but I recently discovered that Neil Diamond was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and has retired from touring and canceled scheduled performances for the rest of 2018.
Neil Diamond is an icon of my childhood. My parents saw him in concert several times and the Hot August Night vinyl album had a presence in our home, which as a youngster gave me confusing feelings.
More recently, I watched him perform, freezing and wearing a skullcap on New Year’s Even in New York City and was so impressed with his willingness to brave the -3 degree wind chill! So it saddens me to hear that at 77, he’s been diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
Why am I even bringing all this up? I guess I should have led with that, but if you haven’t already figured it out, it’s because Mr. Diamond sings one of the best blue jeans anthems of all time. So let’s take a moment to appreciate Forever in Blue Jeans, and while we’re at it, check out the 2008 Gap commercial with Will Ferrell that features Forever in Blue Jeans. His imitation is surprisingly convincing!
