There’s an expression I don’t use too often, but perhaps deserves more play in the denim world: “If it’s good enough for Isabel Marant and Chloe, It’s good enough for me.”
In this case, I’m talking about the micro-trend of patchwork denim. We saw examples of patchwork from both Chloe and Isabel Marant in seasons past, and both designers are proven trend-starters in the fashion world. The question is, Is this look wearable enough to catch on?
Seems like the answer might be yes. Denim brands like Free People (crochet patch skinnies and denim-on-denim patches) as well as DSquared2 have a cut with patches this season (Maison Scotch did a shirt, too). I have yet to try them out — what does one wear with this trend? My first thought would be to give them a sophisticated edge wtih a blazer and heels, but does that go against their purpose?
What do you think? Is patchwork denim a do this season?
