How to Pick the Right Boyfriend Jeans

When shopping for boyfriend jeans — just pick a pair of oversized jeans that look just like your BF’s, right? Wrong. There’s a bit of an art behind picking the perfect boyfriend jeans. Because boyfriend jeans are so popular, and seem to have been for so long, there are many options to choose from. High rise, low rise, cropped, long, distressed … and then some. Follow these simple guidelines to pinpoint the exact pair of boyfriend jeans you’ve been looking for. Or option 2. cover all your bases and just buy one of each style. That would be nice.

1. Choose the right rise.

Like other denim styles, boyfriend jeans come in all types of rises: low, high, mid rise and even in between. Picking a rise depends on personal preference but also on what type of tops you’ll be pairing with your jeans. For example, if planning on wearing a shorter tee, you may want a pair that hits higher up on your waist. Or, if you are looking for a more drop crotch fit, then you’ll want a pair with a much longer rise than most.

2. Choose the right bagginess.

Believe it or not, the boyfriend bagginess scale is rather long. ‘Traditional’ styles, ha that sounds funny, but OG boyfriend jeans fall somewhere in the middle of the scale, but there are both slimmer fits, and super baggy fits as well. Slimmer fits tend to appear more flattering than the bigger, but it all depends on how you pair your jeans, as always.

3. Choose the right length.

Think ahead to 1. which shoes you will be wearing your jeans with and how you like to cuff your jeans. If you want a thick cuff, than go for a longer inseam, if no cuff but you want to show off your wild new heels, then go for a cropped style. I prefer cropped boyfriend jeans, but again it’s up to preference.

 4. Choose the right wash.

Distressed boyfriend jeans are the most popular right now, but that’s just one option. You can choose a light blue wash, black, white, feathered, etc. Darker are more slimming. Lighter the opposite.
