I’ve always been a fan of modern classic women; icons like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, who had that whole effortless grace thing down to a science. One of their contemporaries in particular, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, always had that perfectly chic East Coast prep meets all-American glamor look.
We’ve all had our moment with the giant, dark sunglasses, but there’s another fashion mantra Miss O adhered to that I’m dying to try. Jackie would wear white denim with a black top, which maintains a minimalist palette but without the fear of looking like you might be an off-duty waiter. I like to think of it as reverse-restaurant chic.
There are any number of ways to put this look together, and the best part is that you probably already have at least 100 black tops in your closet (or is that just us New Yorkers?). Ankle-length white jeans like these Vince Denim crop baby bell jeans will look absolutely perfect with almost any black top, but I particularly like this Rachel Paly Cleo top or this sweet Velvet Bayla Lace Blouse.
Even if modern classic isn’t your style, you can add a funky shoe or a colorful scarf to this simple combination to make a look that’s all your own.
