Denim Tips: How To Make Coated Moto Jeans Work For You

One of the biggest fall trends for denim this year is moto-inspired, tough-chic skinny jeans. With an instant cool factor and unexpected details, this style is the perfect way to update your denim wardrobe. Last winter I fell fast and hard for James Jeans’ James Icon Motorcycle Skinny Jeans, and have found those charcoal skinnies are more wearable than I ever would have thought.

This fall I want to take the biker girl in me one step farther – with coated moto jeans. Looks like leather, feels like denim, perfect for dressing up at night and down for the office.

My day-to-day style leans towards preppier, classic pieces, so moto denim is a fun way to mix in a trendier, edgier element to my going-out looks as well as my more casual workday attire. As with any trend-heavy piece, it’s all about how you mix it in.

My best advice for channeling your inner Girl on a Motorcycle? Keep the rest of your look as un-Hell’s Angels as possible. I like how Shopbop has styled the three above jeans with strappy stiletto sandals and tucked-in blouses – it’s a great option for a date or even the office. Personally, I’ll be mixing the toughness with cashmere sweaters, oversize blouses and ballet flats – avoiding anything with metal detailing or buckles. You want to look cool, not costume-y.

When in doubt, just think: What would Kate Moss wear?

Is coated and moto too much trend for you? How would you wear these jeans?
