Denim + Details: Tuck Love

By Ann of Holier than Now

A detail I once associated with menswear – even more specifically, hip-hop influenced menswear – has now made it into my list of my personal styling options.  The one tuck wonder!

I still remember the frustration of middle school when we’re weren’t allow to untuck our shirts … ugh, how I hated that tucked in look, with its stuffy formality.  That sentiment still applies for me, especially when it comes to denim.  Denim screams “I hardly care” (in the best way possible) – often it just seems wrong to button up, tuck in, belt down etc.  On the flip side, a wholly untucked shirt is just … messy!

These street style looks gave me permission to half-untuck with intention, and inspired me to re-look at a bunch of my blouses.  I love the idea that simple jeans and blouse combos can feel so utterly different, taking you from weekend to cocktail chic.

Here are four inspirations, ready for their halfway home:

1. Free People Free People Plaid Road Trip Button Down ($118)

2. Ellery Joe DiMaggio Chambray Blouse ($600)

3. Equipment Equipment Signature Bandit Print Blouse ($248)

4. Elizabeth and James Lauren Metallic Blouse ($295)

Are you a fan of this half-untucked look?
