Basics with a Boost: Sweaters + Denim

By Ann of Holier than Now

Well, it’s that time of year again when I stare into my closet and have “nothing to wear.”  The weather’s too warm to cover up a lazy outfit with a good jacket, and I just know all these sweaters in my drawer can’t possibly add up to zero options … so I’ve turned to street style looks for a little inspiration.

Apparently all you need is a favorite pair of jeans and a basic crewneck sweater, and you can make a fresh outfit with these simple recipes …

Put it in Neutral: Beige is not boring when you just keep pouring … Add a tonal brown bag, belt and shoe and you’ve reached neutral nirvana.

Pop the Collar & the Color: Remember the time you bought 3 colors of the same sweater at H&M – that match with nothing?  Pair with a neutral shirt popped out, and a high-waisted jean, and you’ve made good on that spree.

Baggy Plus Bolded: Take your shapeless weekend sofa sweater, pair with a straight leg jean and a statement necklace … and get off the sofa.

Knot Just a Belt: Drop a belt over a sweater with vintage-inspired flared jeans, and you get an A for personal style.  Tie the belt: A+.

If you’re inspired to invest in some new sweater basics (look how versatile they really are!), here are four greats:

1. Elie Tahari Laurine Cable Knit Sweater ($278)

2. Marc by Marc Jacobs Hustle Green Sweater ($124.60 – 30% off)

3. Theory Jaidyn Pink Angora Sweater ($335)

4. C&C California Fair Isle Button Back Sweater ($180)

There’s nothing I love more than a good sweater and some denim. I own sooooo many knits it’s ridiculous and my growing collection will always be in progress.
