Weekend Denim Inspiration: French Navy With MiH Jeans

Before I started writing Eat, Sleep, Denim, I wasn’t very into flare jeans. I didn’t understand their power, and I associated them with the elephant bell-bottoms of the 1970s and the terrible boot-cut jeans I wore in middle school. The chic middle ground was lost on me. Then last winter I met the MiH ‘Marrakesh’ velvet kick flare, and things changed. The slim leg, the flattering bell, the soft fabric – I was a woman converted.

My love for flares and MiH jeans seem to go hand-in-hand now, which is why I was so excited to test-drive the latest Marrakesh from their fall collection, in twill. For this week’s weekend inspiration I decided to put together a look with one of my favorite 2012 denim trends, monochromatic.

I styled the navy flares with a classic navy pea coat, a navy beanie and nautical stripes. The look is a sort of masculine, “french navy” thing, so to add a bit of femininity I tried out a darker red lip.

Do you like monochromatic looks in the winter? I’m trying my best to avoid wearing black from head to to everyday!

I’ve been wondering if I should pass on my wide and flare leg jeans. So recently I’ve started pinning pictures of wide and flare leg jeans outfits to see if they are still valid or if I am inspired to create an outfit wearing them (so far I haven’t this season or this past summer). While this trend is not hot like it has been before, I still think it’s a classic modern look. Yours is the best variation of this trend that I’ve pinned so far. Really simple, flattering, and elegant.

I really really love this – classic and sexy and warm too! Pinning for next winter’s inspiration…
