Vacation Denim Style: Memorial Day Weekend

Though much of this spring has felt like an early introduction to summer, it’s official start is finally coming this weekend. Memorial Day is always a welcome long weekend, even when the weather doesn’t cooperate. Many of us will be headed out of town, to kick back on a beach, hole up in a cabin on a lake or maybe just take that Monday off from work to hang out at home.

No matter where your vacation (or staycation) might take you this weekend, there’s one denim piece your packing list can’t go without: white shorts. Whether your style is crisp and cuffed a la East Hampton or distressed and slouchy on the shores of Lake Tahoe, they’re the perfect base to build your whole summer around.

Denim shorts are the ultimate summer staple, but to me white is really the best blank canvas to create a quintessentially seasonal look. The stark brightness just screams sunny days at the beach or picnics in the grass. You can direct their look in just about any style, from classic to preppy, casual, bohemian, trendy or sporty. I’m headed up to The Hamptons this weekend (lucky girl, I know), so I’ll be pairing my white shorts with nautical tops in navy and white, and crisp button downs for cocktail hour by the pool.

I love the cuffed style of theseĀ James Jeans boyfriend shorts, as well as the more festival-chic look of these Citizens of Humanity destroyed (and high-waisted) shorts.

How do you dress your white denim in the summer months?
