Trend: To A Crisp (The Classic White Shirt)

By Ann of Holier than Now

For months now, it seems the Breton striped shirt has been the grab-and-go mate for denim.  It’s great to see white shirts make a comeback for summer, in part due to the scorching heat, but also because they’re a great way to wear the menswear feel we seem to be loving of late.  And let’s be honest, it’s scary to think of the likelihood that the person you’ll sit down next to at work/the coffee shop will also be wearing a Breton shirt!  So let’s get creative … with classics.

I’ve been thinking a new, crisp button-down would make a great pre-Fall investment.  The outfit permutations are endless: a white shirt makes colored denim pop, a denim mini sharp not sloppy, and – of course – pairs with anything you’ll ever wear to the office.

A basic like this never has to be boring.  Shop your closet and introduce your old friend to some new pairings, scour your local thrift store for a deserving cast-off, or invest in a new classic.  Here are five for consideration:

1. RED Valentino Button Down Shirt with Bow ($325)

2. Theory Notin White Button Down Shirt ($235)

3. DSQUARED2 Luc Button Down Shirt ($287)

4. MINKPINK Behind Enemy Lines Button Down Shirt ($58.80)

5. Marc by Marc Jacobs Rex Cotton Stripe Blouse ($198)

Are you a fan of the classic white shirt?  Do you own one you love – or are you in the market for a new version?

I love the menswear look, but being a curvy gal, I rarely employ it.

Love the white shirt! My only question is: is every day too often to rock a white shirt?
