Tommy Hilfiger Is Auctioning a Pair of Marilyn Monroe’s Jeans—Bids Start at $40k

On October 21, Tommy Hilfiger next month will auction off a treasure trove of the memorabilia he has collected over his years as a celebrity designer. The highlight of the collection is a pair of jeans worn by Marilyn Monroe in the 1954 film River of No Return (above).

The jeans on auction are on of three pairs from the film’s wardrobe department. The pair currently up for grabs (below) seems to be a much lighter wash than the pair pictured above. According to The Observer, a single button is stamped “Foremost JCP Co.,” a trademark of J.C. Penney, and feature a zip fly and two cross-stitched back pockets.

Hilfiger had bought all three from Monroe’s personal estate, but gifted the other two pairs to Britney Spears and Naomi Campbell.

The auction will take place at Julien’s Auctions pop-up gallery in Los Angeles as well as online. In addition to the jeans, look for a leather vest worn my Mick Jagger and platform boots worn by Ace Freely of Kiss and nearly 300 other items, including select pieces from the personal closet of Dee Ocleppo Hilfiger, the designer’s wife (who is also a designer in her own right). Her collection will include vintage dresses from Oscar de la Renta, Lanvin and La Mendola.

A portion of sales will benefit Autism Speaks, an organization dedicated to helping families and individuals affected by autism.
