It’s possible to wear a denim shirt with jeans and not look like you’re wearing a ‘Texas Tuxedo’. When the double denim trend hit the runways last September, many of us gave the old side eye. ‘Really, double denim?’ Yet, by the time spring rolled around, many people, including myself cozied up to the idea. It’s not as crazy as initailly thought… like when skinny jeans first came back, many women thought we’d all look like stuffed sausages, but now, we love it.
Here’s my take on this trend, and a couple of tips on how you can do it yourself:
- Don’t try to match your denims: Contrast your denims, here I have a light and dark denim.
- Experiment with different weights: There’s a whole family of weights you can work with, the blouse is chambray, while the jeans are ultra sturdy.
- Break it up: Here I’m wearing a chunky sweater over it, blazers also work great.
- Accessorize: That pretty much goes for all outfits, but don’t skimp with double denim becuase it’s a causal look. Dress it up with a vintage handbag, or a pretty brooch.
