Denim Trend: The Sketchy Pencil

By Ann of Holier than Now

You may have seen Garance’s recent post on the torn denim trend, in which one look jumped off the page for me: this ripped denim skirt.  I’ve since stumbled upon it on several street style blogs and I can’t get enough of the brilliant contrast it embodies.  One part sophisticated lady-who-lunches, one part heavy metal groupie circa ’84, the skirt is perfectly high-low and might be the only way I could get into the ripped denim trend.

This particular number is by Acne, and it’s unlikely you’ll get your hands on it at this point!  But, it’s an easy enough denim DIY with a basic pencil skirt – which you might be inspired to keep intact for a while, then change up later in the summer with a few well-placed rips.  I love the Current/Elliot Stiletto Pencil Skirt ($168), or keep your eyes peeled for a vintage or second-hand version.

So, are you a fan of the ripped denim look? (More importantly – where can I find this skirt?!)

Love this, if styled appropriately this seems like a super chic way to wear denim!

Being of color, I feel that I have to work overtime to avoid having a disheveled, ripped, torn or raggedy appearance; I run into enough stereotypes as it is. So this look is definitely not for me. But if you like it, why not?
