Denim Tips for Tall Girls

Standing just above six feet tall, I never need help reaching for highly-stacked clothes while shopping, and strangers frequently flatter me by asking if I’m a model (which, by the way, I’m definitely not). But while being tall has its advantages, my height isn’t always ideal when it comes to buying denim. Over the years, however, I’ve managed to amass a collection of jeans that all stretch the entire length of my extremely long legs. If you’re tall like me, here are some tips to help you do the same.

Know your inseam
This sounds obvious, but it’s easy to assume that all long inseam jeans are long enough for you, and that’s not always the case. My ideal inseam is 36″–yours may be 34″. Those two inches could be the difference between looking incredibly chic or looking like you just hit a random growth spurt.

Spring for premium denim
Most premium denim labels make jeans in a variety of lengths, including often hard to come by longer inseams. Two of my favorite labels that consistently roll out ultra-long jeans are Joe’s and MiH. Premium denim can be pricey, but jeans that fit well, look great and will last for ages are a worthwhile investment.

Don’t dismiss all short styles
I have a pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans that I love, despite the fact that they barely graze my ankles. However, they look amazing with a wide cuff, so that’s how I wear them… all the time.

It’s also easy to get away with skinny jeans and cigarette styles in shorter inseams since they’re meant to hug the ankles and in some cases, scrunch up at the bottom.

Look beyond long pants
Finding jeans may be a challenge, but you’re likely to have good luck when you turn your attention to denim shorts, skirts, dresses and jackets. Your amazing height may still play a factor, but not nearly as much as when you’re shopping for pants. Trust that for every pair of jeans that’s a bit too short, there are tons of denim looks that will fit just right.

As a tally pants, I love this post! Being both curvy and tall has mean that I’ve always had some trouble finding jeans. Most pants that fit my booty are too big for my waist and too short for my legs. I’d add to all this great advice that you should try to find a brand or style of jeans as your starting point. While it’s great to shop around, having a go-to pair can reduce the stress of shopping for denim. I like starting with success! 🙂

I’m 5’9 1/2″, which for a long time meant I couldn’t find women’s jeans (or shirts with long-enough sleeves). Now, there is a nice selection out there if you know where to look: Long Tall Sally, Gap, Banana Republic, and JCrew are where I’ve found a nice selection … I’ve also managed to find 7s and Rock ‘n Republics. Talbots, Loft, and Ann Taylor also do limited items to fit us tall girls. I anticipate that my daughter’s generation will provide me some great looks to wear into my 50s.

standing at 6 feet tall and extremely skinny has made it very hard over the years to find anything that fits me right.. but i found this amazing website.. you literally pick the color denim you want, the style, and measure a pair of jeans that fit your perfect and give them your measurements.. simple, to the point, only thing is it takes about a month to get the jeans, and sometimes it takes some tweeking to get the sizing just right… but its a great website and they are starting to make more then just jeans too… def a plus when you got long arms like me too. hope this helps
