Denim Pairing: Jeans and Menswear-Inspired Coats

Last year this crazy thing happened where New York City didn’t really experience winter. I mean we had winter, but the temperatures were relatively mild, there was little snow and I didn’t wear a down jacket one time. Superstorm Sandy has left, and in her absence we have seen an extreme temperature drop in the city. It seems my beloved season of ankle-baring jeans may have come to an end.

It’s hard to say if this chilly weather will last, New York is a place of surprises. I hope to get a few more exposed-ankle days in before winter officially bears down on us. Along with covering up my ankles, I’ve been thinking about covering up from the neck down as well – I’m talking jackets. My mother has always touted the importance of a great coat, and what a worthy investment piece it can be. Currently, I’m loving menswear-inspired wool or tweed coats that resemble re-imagined blazers.
