Remember Jordache? They were my first pair of designer jeans in junior high. I couldn’t move in them, and I stared at myself in the mirror wearing them for hours before I got up the guts to actually wear them outside. But my grandmother buying them for me was a highlight of my 8th grad year, and a vivid memory I won’t soon forget.
Well the brand is coming up on its 40th anniversary (it incorporated in 1978), and it’s celebrating with a campaign featuring Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio and her 9-year-old daughter Anja. The photos for the fall/winter 2017 women’s and girls’ collections were shot by Cass Bird and styled by celebrity stylist Kate Young. The jeans will be available soon at Bloomingdales, and online at Lord and Taylor and at .
Also just a note about the company in case you’re curious like I was: I had assumed Jordache had been acquired multiple times over the decades, but, in fact, the original three brothers, who launched the brand as a discounted designer jeans shop in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn back in 1969, still own the company.
And it seems denim is the least of their ventures at this point. They’ve grown Jordache into a multi-billion dollar conglomerate with holdings in real estate, restaurants, resorts, and nightclubs. Their businesses run the gamut from an airline to coin-op laundromats. They apparently also bought the Versace mansion in Miami. If your interest is piqued, check out this article at NPR! And let me know how the jeans fit if you buy some!
