Every season, I look forward to seeing what kind of innovation and sometimes, insanity, will hit the runways in the form of denim. It’s such a basic and ingrained part of our everyday wardrobes that a designer would hardly benefit from sending a pair of simple dark denim skinny jeans down the catwalk. Thus, we get exaggerated cuts, crazy details and unique layering.
For example, see Rachel Comey‘s Fall 2013 denim above. Using very washed out denim, she shows a slouchy trouser jean, a denim shirt under a leather blazer, a denim dress with interesting angles and seamed cropped denim.
Diesel Black Gold was all about sexy, fitted dark denim with hard-core but glittering details. Notice the shiny studs that cover a denim jacket and skirt, as well as lace patchwork on long, lean dark jeans.
On the other side of the coin, the denim from Timo Weiland’s collection is much more wearable. Chambray takes the form of a slightly western-inspired shirt and slouchy shorts.
