It’s easy to get lost in the world of novelty denim. Colored jeans, moto jeans, paneled jeans, ripped jeans… the list goes on. But one of the things that’s hard to communicate on the internet is the joy of finding the perfect basic. In this case a pair of just regular jeans. Of course finding the right fit, the right wash, the perfect amount of distressing is another story… but leave it to Paige to deliver just that. I’ve been a fan of Paige denim since long before I started blogging, and have multiple pairs in my collection, though they do well with the novelty denims, they are my favorite basic. Before my baby, I have a pair of dark wash Skylines, which have a mid rise and nice fit, but I wanted a new pair of high waist skinny jeans to help hold in that baby pouch, to which the Hoxton High Rise ($169) called my name.
The Hoxton High Rise
Dark jeans are actually harder to get right when it comes to distressing. If the whiskering and rinsing is to contrasted it can look contrived. These Hoxton jeans in “Comet Destructed” have the perfect amount of contrast where it just highlights the denim. There are a few places like along the pocket where it’s distressed, but generally, these are a very clean pair of jeans (minus the dirt I got on them from the pumpkin patch). The rise at 10″ hit right above the hip bone highlighting your waist (if you tuck in your shirt that is!) and I found the legs to fit on the slouchy side, but definitely skinny. I loved how they were soft to the touch, and medium weight, perfect for California winters (though after living in New York for three years, I would say they were too lightweight for super cold winters). Either way, when Paige sent the jeans, they instantly became part of my wardrobe rotation. They’re actually pretty amazing in terms of fit and quality.
How to Style
Pretty much anything you have will go with these jeans. The high waist is a great update on the classic skinny jean. Tuck in a tee and ankle boots, and you got yourself the perfect weekend outfit. I’m threw on a BLANK NYC military shirt over it and an edgy House of Harlow necklace. Easy peasy. Obviously great for wearing to the farm, but also perfect for the city too.
