Today’s denim review is probably one of the most technical denim reviews I’ve done. These jeans, part of the Couture Collection by James Jeans, are seriously business. They promise to mold to your body, hold you in and lift you up. Yeah, I said lift.
When I first put on the Couture Straight Leg in matte black, I felt like the waist was way too tight. As advertised though, they adjusted comfortably after about 20 minutes of wear. I must not have read the fine print closely enough, because when i went to put my hand in my back pocket – surprise – a little light padding. Now, before you write these jeans off saying, omigod I could never, you can barely notice it and you definitely can’t see it. My co-worker Amanda commented that my butt didn’t look more round or bigger, just lifted – as promised.
What I loveĀ about these jeans is how they feel through the leg. The James Jeans site calls it “suction thigh wrapping” which sounds pretty accurate to me. The cotton denim has Lycra in it (2%) (just like the DL1961′s) so the stretch feels custom-made for your body. The jeans come in matte black and also a dark denim wash – but the matte black wash is pretty brilliant because their slick feel, straight leg cut and invisible stitching allow them to pass off as dress pants you could wear to work. The downfall of that though is that they seem to attract lint like crazy, making them hard to photograph.
The bottom line for me here is that despite all the technology and flattering features of these jeans, I don’t notice a huge difference compared to my regular premium denim. However, they may do wonders for another body type, so I recommend trying them out for yourself.
*Fit note: These straight leg pants have a 34″ inseam, so I tucked them under to hit at the ankle. I’m planning on getting them hemmed this way to be the perfect little black pant for spring.

I know this post is supposed to be about your jeans, which do look great, but I’m stuck on the blazer. I love it!

Haha thank you Rebecca – it’s from years ago @ Urban Outfitters!
I’ve been looking for great black denim for a while now. Normally they’re always a lighter shade of black than I would want or washed out or not the right cut, but these are perfect. Barely look like denim at all!

Jeans looked so cute on you, had to order for myself. You said the waist gave after 20 minutes, does the rest of the fit give aliitle also? Mine fit really tight, but love the wash
