Denim Review: Current/Elliott Captain Trousers

One of the things I’ve been afraid to try is the relaxed/boyfriend look. Really because I thought my figure wouldn’t work well, more like contempt prior to investigation. But since the Current/Elliott showroom visit, I’ve been obsessed with getting more relaxed trousers in my wardrobe. Obsessed. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a pair of Current/Elliot Captain Trousers to test them out.

Ay, ay Captain…

The Captain Trousers aren’t denim, they’re twill…but all differences aside, Current/Elliott is a denim brand, which is how they make it on eat, sleep, denim. When I first saw them, they certainly had the relaxed boyfriendy look that Current/Elliott is famous for. I thought that they would have special cuts to make the relaxedness crisp and not sloppy as there is a fine line that can easily teeter either way. I ordered my regular size, and was quite shocked how big they were, and could easily buy a size down. I opted not to and instead bought a belt that sits on my hips, which had been on the ‘to do’ list for some time.

The trousers do fit differently, the structure is indeed done in a way that accommodates relaxedness. The effortless chic that actually requires effort. The right top the right belt, the right shoes. I personally felt more chic in the way I feel wearing a brand I covet. It might be in the head, but the comfort did affect my attitude walking around. It was nice.

The beauty in the details…

What makes these work really happens in the details. I love the gentle distressing here and there, the soft crumple that gives them that worn in feel. The texture of the fabric, soft with an underlying crispness. I washed them (and put them in the dryer…hey, it was a busy day). And didn’t get to fold them right away, worried I’d have to iron them, just folded them, and the wrinkles somehow disappeared, and when I packed them, they were pretty much weren’t too wrinkly. They make for very good traveling clothes.

Would I buy them again?

Well, I’ve been thinking about this…yes and no. I need to try them a size down, maybe they would work a little better. They do come in army and khaki. The attitude of the Captain Trousers is easy chic, certainly something I can roll with.

Wow! You have totally motivated me to get a pair. They look so amazing on you, especially with those heels!! But I must ask, how did you twist your leg like that in the first picture! That must take skill. Hahahah.

I know exactly what you mean. I was convinced that this look wasn’t for me up until about 6 months ago and now I am obsessed too. Btw, this look is VERY similar to a look I posted on my blog a couple days ago except my top was off white… great minds think alike?? 😉 I am gonna have to steal your idea and rock my olive chinos with a navy blue shirt next time! ha!

Oh, and I love your necklace!

The first time I saw this trend coming my attitude was simply like NOOOO…. 🙂 But now I’m already a happy owner of Boyfriend Jeans ( can’t get enough of them!), and looking for some mannish tweed pants to wear when autumn comes… This kind of trousers is amazingly comfortable, and nothing can beat this! 🙂

Love them – I’ve just found out i’m pregnant and think i might but them to see me through the first few months. Do you know any great maternity labels? I really don’t want to fall into bootcuts again and would much rather the boyfriend style rolled up with a heel to make me feel just a bit AW10!

    Please ,
help to understand, what size of these trousers to buy.
The volume of hips is 94 cm. What size to buy, 27 or 28?
    Thanks, Olga!
