Most the time, when a fashion designer delves into denim, they’ll go the generic “5 pocket style” jean, and make a collection around the popular styles of the time ie, skinny jeans, boot cut, flare, etc. Or they’ll do a capsule collection in denim. But not Rachel Comey. I’ve been a fan of Rachel Comey for years, and am delighted to see how she’s incorporated denim with her regular collections the past few seasons. Rachel Comey explains to Style.com, “her strategy with the denim has been to stick to her niche of exploratory silhouettes and experimental washes.” Which couldn’t be any more obvious, with high waist denim trousers with raw edges, stone wash pleated jeans, and denim sweatpants, it’s obvious that she’s experimenting with the flexibility of denim and how it fits in with her collection, elevating her jeans beyond streetwear and by making them fashion pieces.
Also, look at the shoes. Since I basically wore the Mars bootie for two years straight, I can’t wait to get my hands on those white pumps!
